Just brilliant. Babos my personal MotM. Looking forward to the draw and also to Tuesday. This may be the best squad I've ever seen - I'm 56. I would have loved to have seen Matty G or Norman S in the squad.

First comment from the Bath forum
personToday at 7:56 pm by Luton Roman Quick, sharp, clever, inventive, confident, yes City fans were out in force for this one and in good mood. Good first 15 mins when we looked bright and forced several corners. A shot on goal would surely come at some stage. No, at no stage did it come. A poor a City performance I struggle to remember, perhaps East Thurrock, or Harlow or Potters Bar hmm common denominator, the FA Cup the 1st Round of which we won't grace for at least 11 years now. There are kids in primary school that don't know City have been that far !
Banbury fully deserved their win, skilful, hard working certainly looked the step 2 team. After that start we became the 1 dimensional launch to Cooke tactics, occasionally found Frear before he was doubled up. Even when it became desperate nothing happened. How good is their keeper at shot stopping? WE SHALL NEVER KNOW COS WE DIDNT HAVE ONE !!!
Oh City, we came in numbers, but you didn't turn up and you let us down, that is the most damning thing I can say of my team today.

I would have loved to have seen Matty G or Norman S in the squad. Haven't posted on this board for years but have to agree Babos was brilliant in his role. Looked to me to be doing a Kante role. Certainly gave a more stable midfield and defensive support and also started some great moves, including the diagonal ball out to the left wing that led to our goal and was an unseen hero today. That said everyone put in a first class effort, teamwork won it.

Agree with above. I thought Alex Babos was awesome today, absolutely everywhere. Fantastic performance from the whole team. Thoroughly deserved victory. Well done

A decent game played in a fair spirit. I didn't see players berating the ref over every decision, which is always a bonus.

Their 4 did early. We just matched them, totally deserved the win. There's a unity in the squad I've never seen before. Gill bit quite easily when I suggested he might be getting his p 45 Happy days

What a wonderful afternoon. The result, the attendance, the atmosphere – and the weather, which set it all off perfectly. I stayed on afterwards for a celebratory pint and a few handshakes with old acquaintances; there were still a couple of hundred spectators milling about when I left just before 6 with the sun setting over the ground. It was almost like a spring evening, an enormous contrast with my first experience of this round, a sodden evening replay in a November monsoon in 1972.
Today's performance? I thought the team looked a bit overawed for 15 minutes or so until they realised that Bath didn't really have much to offer, especially after the visitors found that the referee wasn't fooled by their theatrics. Their defence certainly didn't like players running at them. There were, perhaps, a few occasions when Banbury tried to be just a bit too cute. A little more ruthlessness might be required – and, perhaps, a striking partner for Chris Wreh, who did OK (!) for a man with two or three markers most of the afternoon. Nevertheless, the longer the game went on, the more it was clear that only a mistake or a lucky break would let Bath in while Banbury always posed a threat on the break.
The only disappointment? Not getting a deserved second goal in that good period at the start of the second half.
For the record:
Banbury have reached the First Round without needing a replay (or penalties), only the third time that four or more successive rounds have been won at the first attempt. Previous occasions: 47-48 (6 rounds from Extra Prelim to 4Q), 61-62 (1Q-4Q).
Today's attendance of 1,535 has been exceeded only four times in the previous 50 seasons.

A memorable day it was. Wasn’t sure about Babos when he came to club but really was the man today, the star amongst a team that all performed on the day. Credit Mr Whing for this and an excellent team selection! I think and hope there is more to come.
Bath obviously have some good players but they didn’t offer any sustained threat today. A well supported team whose fans are a credit to the club. Great bunch.
Finally a referee who was consistent, we all see the game differently at times but the officials were very good today if a little whistle happy first half.
Well done to all behind the scenes to make a great day for the big crowd at little old Banbury. Will be tuned in via phone/itv hub to see where ball 73 takes us next.

Thinking back, was last year's first round draw regionalised because of Covid? Assume this year it's back to normal if so.

Thinking back, was last year's first round draw regionalised because of Covid? Assume this year it's back to normal if so. First round is always an open draw. Has been for about 20 years. Looking forward to the draw. I think a home draw against a league side will see our game televised live. I think ITV and BBC will cover 5 live matches between them. We are one of the lowest ranked teams and every chance of an upset due to our seasons start. Sheffield Wednesday, Wycombe Wanderers or Oxford United would be nice.We shall wait ans see 😊

Congratulations to Banbury. I thought City were awful yesterday - created absolutely zero and Jerry Gill seemed to have "nothing up his sleeve" on the bench which would have turned the game. I fear City are destined to spend the rest of the season dabbling with the lower half of the league but safe from relegation as only one club go down. But more creativity is needed and something has to change.
As far as Banbury are concerned I thought your 2, 9 and 11 all played really well. After the initial 20 minutes you really settled and fully deserved your half time lead. Second half City barely threatened and it all just fizzled out from our point of view.
I really enjoyed my trip to your ground. Plenty of other City fans there too and a great atmosphere. I wish you well in the First round round proper - Sheffield Wednesday or Sunderland home or away would be a dream draw!!! Good Luck to you all!!

Electric atmosphere at the Town End the second half. Bowers and Pitsea @ home, please.
