What are we to make of AFC Fylde, the creation of millionaire David Haythornthwaite, chairman of the Tangerine Group? His money took the club from the West Lancashire League as Kirkham & Wesham to a shot at the Football League as AFC Fylde, and from a council-owned recreation park to a brand new multi-million-pound stadium. Fylde's Wembley play-off final defeat of 2019 against Salford, another club with some well-off backers, was watched by just 8,049 spectators. It might have been a warning. The following year, Fylde were relegated, their first reverse under Haythornthwaite's ownership. He was quoted thus: " Millionaires can't compete these days...". Nevertheless, the spending continued. The new ground, opened in 2016, was finished last season with the completion of the new main stand. Despite losing to Boston in the play-offs, the Football League appears to remain the ambition...even with those modest attendances... AFC Fylde at the Football Club History Database

For all the hype I thought Fylde were very ordinary and really weren't able to cope with us. Most impressed by the response to their goal. 1003 seemed higher than the attendance I'd estimated.

1003...Thats great compared to what Brackley would get. Great start, only 30 odd points to stay in this division required..

To be fair. It's the middle of August, it was ludicrously hot and for all its' charm, the stadium isn't overly blessed with cover and shade. I don't know my way round the League website yet to find attendances but those factors should be considered.

Rumour that opponents showed their class by leaving early and citing food not to their standard! Maybe our chef decided it matched their performance 😁 Bunch of show ponies today

The price hikes will keep a few away weather was extremely hot will have deterred many of our older supporters and a few but not many at Fairport Still a very decent crowd for little old Banbury

Agree it’s a good crowd but could be better , To survive at this level without the support of a sugar daddy we really have to have the support of the town and surrounding areas on our side from the word go , lots of fine work is being done by getting local businesses to put in money , things are looking rosey but we can’t rest on our laurels.

Valid point from Spoons. Prices are up 50% on just a couple of years ago, and I think the age concession has also changed. People will feel the pinch and non-essentials suffer. Really a 1000+ crowd being seen as a disappointment shows how far we've come.

Agree about the price hike, apparently this was judged against what other teams in the league charge, given all that’s going on at the moment financially a more modest rise would have been more appropriate for the first season but that’s only my opinion. Last Season £10 and £7 This season £15 and £11 A fairer rise I think would have been £13 and £9 but then I’m not the accountant.

Outgoings will be significantly higher I'm sure, travel being an obvious area. One thing I meant to ask but didn't, is the arrangement for parking at the station still in force? Yesterday it didn't seem to be but that may well just have been me. I think last season was £11 on the gate. But hey, two games two wins against clubs well established at this level, take that every day of the week.
