Not a game for the purist but in the end another three points on the board and Coalville losing was a bonus.

banburyunitedfc.proboards.com/thread/3308/rushallAW on playing after a big match: "I know another team in our league didn't want to play tonight after their exploits at the weekend but we're better than that." I'll take a punt on Banbury having a Christmas attendance of 1,000+ for the first time since 1969... banburyunitedfc.proboards.com/thread/3323/hednesfordUnited have been fantastic to reach the top spot but now the real hard work will start if we want to stay there , us fans will be needed to play our part even more from now !!! Can we get 12-1300 for the Stratford game ? Banbury's biggest league attendance in more than 52 years. Mon 01.09.69 – 1,559 Bedford Town Fri 26.12.69 – 1,017 Cheltenham Town Mon 30.03.70 – 1,126 Cambridge City Sat 17.11.73 – 1,045 Kidderminster Harriers Tue 21.01.03 – 1,042 Salisbury City Tue 10.10.17 – 1,011 Hereford Mon 27.12.21 – 1,221 Stratford Town

My first game for a while and was really impressed with the team and the crowd - in fact the whole set-up was great. Well done to all of the team behind the scenes working hard for the club - the unsung heroes. This is the best team that I have seen in all of the years that I have been following the club. Merry Christmas.

Not the best performance, could maybe do with some additional defensive cover in the squad, but overall a good crowd considering the weather and the kick off time (I assumed wrongly that would have a negative effect it seems) 3 more points and none of our top 5 rivals winning. A good day.

Not the best performance, When you're top of the league your opponents up their game and unless you score two goals in the first five minutes to take the wind out of their sails then games can be scrappy affairs. What a lovely problem to have !!

I agree, certainly the most complete team we've had in the 'fan owned' period of the club's history, and I'm guessing for some time prior to that. (My attendance history is basically 1970's very early 80's, big, big gap - fan owned). Something quite special.

...3 more points and none of our top 5 rivals winning. A good day. Banbury and Coalville each have three successive away league matches coming up; Peterborough have six. A Rushden fan who saw Peterborough's game against Banbury last week wasn't impressed with them, nor the set-up. He also noted the behaviour of the spectators behind the dugout: "The knuckle heads who insist on standing behind the opposition dugout were their usual disgraceful selves and obviously little done about it so expect Peaksy and Co to receive some fairly disgusting abuse. I'd suggest it's not a daft bet – Peterborough Sports to miss out on the play-offs."
Peterborough's 'bumper crowd of 415' was their first league attendance of 400 in the seven seasons for which I can find records (from 13-14 in UCL Div 1). Their average in the SL Premier in 31 matches (split over three seasons, of course) is just 234 (250 this season). Could a club like that really survive at the next level up?

Stratford's Match report on Website:
"Match Summary by Kevin Hand to follow
Hard to take for The Bards as Puritans win with controversial penalty"
From where I watched from it looked 50/50 challenge but the video play back Ben got to the ball first just ahead of the keeper, and the ball then hit the keeper before Ben was caught by the keeper. So on the video evidence poor back pass and poor challenge by the keeper the penalty was the correct decision.

Large and vocal support is laughable, yes some there but not even 10% of crowd. Funny when the reverse report had Banbury’s small and vocal support, about 60% of ground. Can’t see what Tim Flowers has changed either. Wannabes and not good enough to be in the mix. Not our best performance but job done against stubborn opposition, gap widening.

The difference is that Brackley have a very wealthy benefactor and are well run.
