Have to agree, pretty poor show, I thought I'd hit the car adverts before seeing the game, even better that they can't even be bothered to get a relevant photograph up, although like you say he'd have had a field day if we'd have been stuffed and stuck it on the front page

I suggest if you have any views or comments regarding the Banbury Guardian you don't post it on here but either write to, The Editor, Banbury Guardian, 7 North Bar Banbury OX16 0TQ or e-mail editorial@banburyguardian.co.uk they are a very fair paper and should publish your comments.

Blimey Nigel,Ouch!!!You know as well as I do that any representation to the BG regarding sport will go through one person, now to be fair I don't know if he has ultimate editorial rights as to what goes where but given this was a Local Derby and was touted as much on the back page of last weeks paper then it does'nt make sense that it did'nt get the same treatment this week and was pushed four pages back. The BG is the only local paper and as such we should be seeking as much exposure as possible. As an aside this is a forum for matters BUFC and I consider that my original posting is a valid comment relating to matters Banbury United.

Some very harsh comments about the BG once again. Other sporting events happen in the area, we are not the only club/organisation looking for publicity. We have no god given right to expect a prime slot in the sports pages. The BG is a great local newspaper, with a very talented sports journalist. As for the comments about the game getting more coverage had Brackley won, well, that is just rubbish. The BG do a great job, the sports section is always a delight to read. Get off their case and leave them to continue with the good work.

History speaks for itself and if I have offended some people with my comments then so be it. A local derby game in a local paper being given a bit more prominence surly is'nt too much to ask for and if you read my initial posting I did clearly say that I don't expect banner headlines every week. This is a debate that has rumbled on for many years and it's hard enough to get people through the turnstiles as is it is and given the apparent gulf between the teams I think we actually deserved a bit more obvious coverage for this particular game.

I thought the reporting of game was good, in terms of its assessment and the amount of column inches. However it was well inside the paper, but could this have been due to the timing of the game and print deadlines, all the sport on the back page would have been at the weekend and so written up on the Monday/Tuesday and I'd guess space left for the derby match to be finished on Wednesday?

Now I know I haven't lived in Banbury for more years than I care to mention (30 ahem!) but what of the Banbury Cake free newspaper that used to go around? Does it still exist? If so, would it not be prudent for them, perhaps, to make more of an issue of local sport which, in turn, forces the hand of the BG to give bigger and better coverage. This would, obviously, in turn give the club a larger slice of the market without raising a finger or spending much needed funds, generating a wider knowledge of the club/team/games etc. by reaching a greater audience. The flip side, of course, is that should little interest be shown in the Puritans by the demographic of the area, it wouldn't greatly help but without a little lobbying in the right places one has to suppose we'll never really find out? Be lucky Brockie

Be lucky Brockie The Banbury Cake is still published every week as a free newspaper The paper does print a match report that we send them each week. This is obviously useful publicity in that it is delivered to all houses in the area.

The Cake does not get delivered to every house in the area, often weeks go by without one being delivered, Hillview Area and also on Ruscote Estate im sure the same in other areas as well!
