How many of you remember last season, this time last year? Bizarrely, we had one of the best away records in the Northern Conference, and then we all know what happened come the new year. This season has a similar feel: We had a goodish start, and now we struggle. It may sound harsh, but this season's team is one of the most boring to watch for quite a while. The lack of creativity is the foundation of the lack of goals and results. Doesn't matter who is upfront or how good your defence is, if can't create ammo for your frontline you are in trouble. Our XG (expected goals) must be woefully low per game.
Forgive me, I have only watched one game this season, the home league match against Stamford. Despite the win, it felt like a cup match against higher league opposition, the lads giving 110%, but even early in the second half some of our lads looked spent, on their haunches. Just unsustainable effort in a long season.
We need a competitive team, I would rather see us lose 4-3 and reflect after on how on this earth we lost that game, than the current pattern of results.
The gaffer wanted patience, but the squad has been in place for over 20 games, so it is only fair now to reflect. For me, it isn't working out for the club. I listen to the interviews and previews and the words of the gaffer, but his subdued emotions—or should I call it discipline—in front of the microphone don't connect with the fanbase. I worry about Simon's background, more the number 2 than the boss. Some of these players are young they need leadership from the manager, not just on the training ground but pregame, half time and after the match. I hear through interviews that players are left to their own devices in the heat of the moment. Yes, you need leaders on the pitch, but the manager needs to take control at key times. I do wonder about his ability to connect with professional clubs and his connections within the non-league game.
Do you think he should be given more time?
Do you think the current squad is good enough, ability-wise?
When was Banbury United this bad at scoring goals? (Steve T)
Is it all down to money?
