Who sacks a title-winning manager after three games? The last visit was a grim one on the last Saturday in January. Banbury had been in second place on New Year's Day after a victory over Corby, the last match in an unbeaten run of 18 that had started in August. This, however, was their fourth defeat in five games as they slipped quickly down the table. It all but saw the end of their promotion chances. Banbury were two down at half-time and looking out of sorts but Norman Sylla scored immediately after the restart to give them hope. Luck was against them. Jimmy Simpson was whacked in the 6-yard area but nothing was given. There was a scramble in the Spalding goalmouth but somehow the ball stayed out. However, Banbury didn't create enough and two late goals finished them off. They won just five of their last 16 matches to finish 8th, 19 points from the promotion places (no play-offs then).

So not just the ref's fault!

Can’t blame the ref for that I’m afraid (yes he was poor tho)

SH did dwell on it rather but went on to admit that Banbury didn't respond well to the two early disputes and the goal that soon followed.

Banbury have lost every one of the six games in which the opposition have scored first. Admittedly that was very late against St. Ives and Halesowen but they'd had 80+minutes to get ahead. They equalised at Plymouth but were level for less than 10 minutes.
Nine goals in 12 league games simply isn't good enough.

Whilst we shouldn’t be relying on referees decisions to give us a chance and instead scoring in open play the highlights have once again highlighted the hopeless standard of officials we have seen so far this season.

Sorry chaps, but you can't blame match officials for our poor performances.

Sorry chaps, but you can't blame match officials for our poor performances. No getting away from the fact that we are masters of our own destiny but we should expect the officials to at least get it right most of the time, sadly in recent games this hasn’t been the case.

The Match report on the website makes interesting reading. Check out asap before the club see sense and remove it before we land ourselves in hot water
