Came across this from last summer www.banburyunitedfc.co.uk/news/new-ground-lease-signed-2783968.html#Looks like the lease is due to expire in June. Quite concerning- feels like we are trying to climb Everest with a fridge freezer on our backs currently given we are also faced with needing to find a manager and chairperson. The club is worryingly a hard sell to anyone right now in its current state

1. RJ mentions the second year (to 2025) in the interview and also did so in more than one meeting.
2. Perhaps Tilstone made threatening noises.

Sadly developers will always have the upper hand and can impose conditions to however they want, the council have over the years just dragged their heels and come up with suggestions for relocation that have no substance, as I have said before I believe there was a commitment not to grant planning permission until a new home was available but this does not mean we can stay where we are until that time as the owners could evict us at any time and just watch the ground fall apart. Unless we can find a way to attract some real finance there is no way forward in getting a new home.

The ground situation is the most challenging thing at this moment in time. Forget a new chairman , Forget a new manager, Forget new board members, The ground situation MUST take priority. As a club we have wasted decades relying on the council, they have made lots of promises, but have never even come close to delivering. There has been talk of relocation since the 1970,s, but we have always been let down by the local authorities. But now the situation is very serious indeed. Forget the talk about us having to have a replacement ground before we can be evicted. The fact is the landlord has made it perfectly clear that they want the site. The end of next season could see us leaving our present home. It would be impossible to build a new ground in a year, and of course it would be totally impossible without a new location!! 25/26 season could very well see us playing our home games at Leamington or Stratford, and that would certainly be the end of our wonderful old club. Whatever else is going on at Banbury United, the ground situation must be the priority.

My bad Steve- never actually listened to the interview and haven’t bothered with agms and what’s been said at them for a long time- as Pete t says, the ground situation feels like an endless tunnel- nothing tangible has ever remotely gotten close. We certainly are not going to get new land in the next 12 months so that leaves us begging someone to ground share, or signing on for another year at I guess increased rent untill we are Strangled out of existence, which sadly a ground share could also do.

Agree Pete entirely- but without a chairperson and suitable board set up- who, how and when is the ground situation going to be addressed?! We are a ship without a sail heading in to choppy waters

Just a Thought - and I’m thinking ahead to worst case scenario here and purely as a last ditch attempt to keep the club going and still in the town-
Let’s say end of next year we have to leave the ground - we all know ground sharing out of Banbury will kill us- maybe if we could agree a ground share for 2 years with easington - and move the new stand across- and take a volunteer relegation down another level to where the ground would be deemed suitable- that could keep Banbury playing in Banbury and time to get a ground sorted, just an idea, we’ve seen kettering use lower league burton Latimer to set up base camp, and rushden and diamonds used Wellingborough town too.
