It’s very simple really and not a criticism of either camp ,Banbury Utd manager and team thought the conditions were safe and playable after the officials declared the pitch playable at 1.15pm and 100% were preparing to play the fixture,on the flip side Darlington manager and team did not share that opinion of the conditions and made this known to the officials who revisited the area of concern and called the fixture off on player safety grounds. Look forward to welcoming you back in the spring. No issue with this stance, it’s just not the one AW has. Look forward to my visit back. And you will be more than welcome👍

Funny given that it was apparently perfectly playable on Saturday and temperatures have improved since then! Except here. Minus 5ish Saturday Sunday and Monday. Might be warm where you are but it is grim in the south midlands

It is the view of many, rightly or wrongly, that the darlo manager and players influenced the ref.
Why has AA not made a comment?. Just wondering

My thoughts go out to Coalville and their injury crisis. You are so funny! FYI in Banbury there has been a hard frost on Saturday evening, Sunday evening and Monday evening, was an amazing 1 degree at 8am this morning. Match Ref visited and called the game off at lunchtime. It is Winter

So you are happy that the pitch is Frozen and temperatures have been lower than on Friday and Saturday last week. You are only upset as three referees declared the pitch ok, only for the third one the actual match official to call the game off 30 minutes before kick off, if a pitch is deemed a danger to players, then right to call the game off, but the ground was a lot better last Friday and Saturday than this week! Did you actually make the trip down Saturday? Did you go on the pitch and walk on the small area deemed unsuitable? I do understand the frustrations but not Banbury United's fault. I hadn't made it all the way to the ground Saturday, so unable to comment if one or more individuals had a word with the match official to express their opinion on the state of the pitch.
Banbury played at Boston in December and by the end of the match the pitch was freezing in colder temperatures than at last weekend, game went ahead even though sub zero temps when the game finished. That could have caused an injury or two.... food for thought!

Now getting quite boring about Saturday, but for info, the Darlo kit man arrived before the team and thought the pitch was perfectly playable. Mmmmm?

Question 1: Did Banbury United carry out due diligence prior to informing Darlington FC that the game was on.
Answer: Yes, by having prior pitch inspections to ensure fitness to play.
Question 2: Was the pitch deemed fit to play prior to Darlington FC arriving.
Answer: Yes, by the match referee at around 13:10
Question 3: Did the weather conditions change between 13:10 and around 14:10 when the game was called off.
Answer: No.
Question 4: Have the weather conditions improved here since Saturday.
Answer: No, the cold temperatures have not improved.
So overall it’s time to put this whole issue to bed and perhaps the critics need to look in their own backyard for some answers given the speculation surrounding the alleged pressure applied to the referee, if that was the case then Darlington FC need to issue an apology to all the fans that travelled needlessly. Just remember that we would not have informed you that the game was on if that was not the case given the distance involved.

Having cleared all the mud off my legs after a jog over Spiceball Fields!! I expect game will now be next Tuesday as it has priority being a national FA competition over County Cup games FA seem to think so at moment too! www.thefa.com/competitions/fa-trophy/fixturesWe shall see!

From the Darlington forum:
LoidLucan – Wed Jan 25, 2023 12:41 pm Banbury's "perfectly playable" pitch is still frozen and tonight's Trophy match is off again. It's made their manager look a complete clown for saying "no problems" with the pitch on Saturday. That's FOUR postponements in just over a week. They should never have dragged our players and fans all the way down there when the pitch was clearly unfit... and it's still so several days later.
Shildonlad – Wed Jan 25, 2023 12:55 pm Again! The next round of the fa trophy is a couple of weeks away so this needs playing asap. Is there a maximum number of times a tie can be called off before it gets reversed or goes to a neutral ground i wonder
LoidLucan – Wed Jan 25, 2023 1:02 pm I don't think a couple of hundred darlo fans who were down there for a game that was never gonna go ahead on Saturday would give a flying feck if Banbury were just chucked out.
A good proportion of the public hates football. Remarks like the above persuade them that most of the game's followers are of very limited intelligence.

Why would we apologise to our supporters when we had absolutely no say in whether the game was called off or not? I take absolutely no issue with the process carried out by Banbury, as I’ve said previously, poor refereeing is to blame in this instance. I only take issue with AW who chose to make completely false accusations about us.

I think there was more chance of Telford being champions than this game ever being on.
