Overall a good day at the office, the first half was nothing to really shout about, Ben had to deal with a cross come shot early doors but for the rest of the game was largely a spectator. Two goals towards half time effectively killed the game and the second half was totally controlled by us,even with a few first team choices on the bench we had sufficient to deal with any threat so onwards to the draw on Monday to see who comes out of the hat.

After the first goal the game was over. The goal had been coming, first 20 minutes not much happened.
You could see the difference in the standards between the two teams.
Top fans from Stow drumming and singing throughout!
Best wishes to them for the rest of the season.

It might surprise some of you to know that 702 was Banbury's biggest attendance in the competition for more than 44 years – 1,077 v. Leatherhead in January 1978.
Some supporters might have been puzzled by the reference in the website match preview to the numbering of the rounds in the competition. The FA have changed it three times in the last 25 years. The Trophy started in 1969-70 with the quarter-finals as the 4th Round but from 98-99 to 04-05 and from 20-21, the QF round has been the 6th.
Under the original format, the competition proper started with the 1st Round (obviously...), that being the last 64 and the last round to which exemptions were made. It's now the 3rd Round. Those exemptions have varied with the changes in the league structures but from 98-99 it has been the Conference/National League clubs (Step 1). From the 04-05 season, Step 2 clubs have been exempted to the prior round.
Some of these changes are a result of the expansion of the pyramid and the number of clubs admitted to the competition. This has affected the qualifying competition, which has had three, four or five rounds at different times.
Before this season, Banbury's most common start was three rounds before the last 64 but for eight seasons in the 1970s the club was exempted to 3Q (the last qualifier) or the 1st round on the basis of performances in previous seasons. Exemptions based on performance were also common in the FA Cup but ended in both competitions in 1998 when rank became the criterion.

Nice easy win,and with a weakened side. Fair play to the Stowmarket supporters, they seemed to enjoy their day. Interesting to see who we get in the next round.

Nice easy win,and with a weakened side. Fair play to the Stowmarket supporters, they seemed to enjoy their day. Interesting to see who we get in the next round. A bit too soon in the competition for Notts County, Wrexham or Chesterfield. Braintree at home will be a disappointment...
