I might put up a little piece on attendances later but I can say for certain now that this season's league figures will easily exceed 73-74, the last time the average was more than 500.
They did so with the Peterborough game.
73-74 – 11,404 in 21 at 543
21-22 – 11,777 in 17 at 692
Previous averages can't be determined precisely because records are incomplete but with only a handful unknown, it's possible to make a reasonable guess (especially the first two seasons with only one missing from each).
1966-67 – 1,130
1967-68 – 1,350
1968-69 – 770-790
1969-70 – 680-700
1970-71 – 570-600
NB Just in case any of you were wondering how, with incomplete data, I could be sure that the Stratford gate was the biggest in 52 years, I had a list of attendances of 1,000+.
