That'll be a couple of dozen then I feel you underestimate our away following. There will be at least 100,sadly I am unable to make it. But rest assured you will know we are there.

Quote on the Rushden forum today! Re: [ Sat 15th Jan ] v Banbury Utd, KO 3pm SLPDC AWAY Post by sussexdiamond » Fri Jan 14, 2022 10:03 am Every time Banbury have lost or drawn a game this season they bounced back with a win. That record needs to end tomorrow. This must be the most eagerly awaited match since K*ttering New Year's Day 2019. I see their manager is already getting his excuses ready, blaming injuries and Covid. No excuses we played Tuesday with a changed side due to injuries / illness to 9 first team players, I seem to recall Rushden called the game at Peterborough Sports off due to Covid! Pot kettle seems to come to mind. As mentioned elsewhere the new players on loan played well against Rushall full first team and only beaten by a deflection in the 92nd minute, the youngster that came in did a great job, Brown, Wiliams, Acquaye and Wreh should be available so should be a good game. How many ex Banbury players in the Rushden Team still, Dolman, Lorraine, Shamsi ....

I don't know where AW been 'making his excuses' other than to point out more than once recently that Banbury have a run of injuries and illnesses that are to be expected at some point in any season, especially when playing so many games in such a short period. In the 29 days from Sat 11th Dec to Sat 8th Jan, Banbury played 8 times, more than anyone in the division. Stourbridge played 5 (plus a Trophy match), Coalville 5, Peterborough, Rushall and R&D just 4.
Rushden's current run: victories against 14, 9, 18, 19, 20, 12, 7, 11; defeats against 8, 14.

Let’s see what the reply is now for AW making excuses, apart from JH having to defend a penalty that was missed Rushden offered virtually nothing which was surprising given that they were on a decent run of form. Only slight negative for us is the midfield which needs a bit more bolstering but apart from that a solid performance all round.

Good win, Rushden threatend briefly in the first half, bad pen miss. Then we warmed into the game and I think everyone enjoyed Dolmans own goal!
20 points to guarentee playoffs 30 to win the league!

I’ll settle for the 16 point lead at this point in time. I can remember when Highworth had an 18 point lead at Christmas and blew it allowing us to win promotion so nothing is a given.

Out of interest is that consecutive home league games with 1000+ attendance? Has that happened before?

Speechless, the best atmosphere in 40 years of watching Banbury.
Shout out to Harry and James at the back. James looks quality especially given his age. To step in at short notice shows the recruitment and depth. Gio and Morgan looked sharp. TBH all the clear chances fell to Banbury apart from the penalty. Welcome back Jack, feel for Ben thou. Andy has some difficult decisions next Saturday.

The pressmans assessment of the match on the Rushden forum is an interesting read, in a nutshell neither goal should have stood owing to the ineptitude of the match officials and we were diving all over the place with the slightest touch. Perhaps if the opposition weren’t putting it about so much we might not have been hitting the deck so often, that said the record will still say 2-0 to the Puritans.

Rushden's keeper must take some credit for the own goal. Watch the highlights and see how he pushes Dolman into the perfect position to head home.

Don’t think sussexdiamond has taken that defeat very well, needs to ask why his team were basically toothless in their efforts to score and also the freebie that was dreadfully missed.
