Corby have come a long way from the Eastern Division club of 20 years ago that was struggling to stay in the Southern League and to get 100 spectators through the turnstile at the dispiriting arena that was the Rockingham Triangle athletics stadium. It's to the credit of those involved that the club went on to win two Southern League titles (2009 and 2015) and promotion to Conference North as well as moving to a new stadium built immediately adjacent to the athletics ground.
Of course, what goes up often comes down. Corby's first spell at Step 2 lasted four years, their second just one, successive relegations putting them in the NPL's Div 1 South. Transferred to the SL Div 1 Central for 18-19, they qualified for the play-offs, losing in the final at Bromsgrove. In 2020 they were 3rd with 12 games to go when play was stopped and last season were leading after seven games before the second termination. Moved back to the NPL in the summer, they haven't made such a good start this time but with handy attendances of 400+ they're well equipped for another challenge.
Banbury have a slight edge in 23 seasons of league meetings going back to 1968-69 but the clubs have never met in this competition (nor in the FA Cup).

Sounded like a hard fought win, whilst not playing our best.
Possibly thoughts were turning to next saturday.
Wonder what the Barrow scout will say when he reports back, Mark Cooper left early on Tuesday so they have not seen Banbury play as they can.

Barrow very poor today defence all over the place if you target Ellis & Grayston both very slow and hate players running at them, we didn`t have Zanzala today or last week so only Gordon our only forward, Williams & James only run about and Farman likes to punch all the time, can see you scoring next week and Barrow will have to play a lot better than today.

Interesting post match interview from Corby, apparently we were crowding the Ref every time there was a foul and were instrumental in getting Diggin sent off. Three bookings for us and two plus the red for them so I would say about even. Usual excuses of a depleted squad with injuries but if we were that bad they should have beaten us.

...apparently we were crowding the Ref every time there was a foul and were instrumental in getting Diggin sent off... I hope not – I don't like to see that. On another point...there are just three teams in senior football unbeaten in all competitions so far: Banbury, 18 (11L, 7C); Hayes & Yeading, 17 (10, 7); Liverpool, 15 (10, 5). Buxton's record went yesterday at 20 (14, 6), surprisingly beaten at home in the Trophy by Colne.

Surprised to see that a certain Mr Day is still in charge or should that be Trethewy.

Is their friendly goalkeeper still there who lost his head at our place?!

Time has dimmed the memory, when was the famous motorway gate game that stitched us right up?

The first match was on Saturday 11th November 2017. The replay eventually took place two weeks later. It's at the same stage of the competition: 2Q then is the First Round now. ________________________________ Is their friendly goalkeeper still there who lost his head at our place?! The only surviving member of the starting XI from the replay is defender CJ Fearn (that's how he presents himself). ________________________________ Two much-changed sides this afternoon compared with their midweek league games. Both begin with all five subs; Banbury have five of Tuesday's starters, Farnborough four.

Disappointing to go out on an own goal and also losing a player for three games, but I feel there are bigger fish to fry this season.
