The FA has consulted the Step 3-6 clubs about how to proceed. The choices appear to boil down to (i) another null and void (ii) complete this season next season (iii) something else not yet thought of because no one knows when the restart will be. There is another proposal being offered by some renegades calling themselves Project Non League. This season (20-21) should have been the first of the latest revision of the Pyramid i.e. 48 clubs at Step 2 and the eighth division at Step 4. The idea is that this should be implemented without relegation, merely elevation of the required number of clubs to make up the numbers at Step 2-4. Additionally, the group suggests that the projected changes at Step 5 and 6 (16 and 32 divisions) could also take place. Positions at each level would be decided by ppg after adding together all 19-20 and 20-21 results.

I get a bit lost in all the discussions concerning restructuring. Simply put if the planned restructuring goes ahead what are the potential implications (if any) for Banbury?

Probably none for Banbury but there might be some movements in and out to make up the numbers (see the Project Non League item above). I doubt that that would mean a transfer to another division at this level.

Fair enough. Do the four leagues at Step 3 retain 22 teams under this project?

It has also been decided that, subject to FA Council's decision regarding the curtailment of the season at Steps 3 to 6, both committees will revisit discussions around a potential restructure at Steps 4-6 of the NLS, which was previously agreed and has been on hold since the 2019-20 season. A further update on this will be provided in due course.www.thefa.com/news/2021/feb/24/nls-steps-3-6-update-20210224 This has been approved.

For those who are interested: Step 4 mapsStep 5 maps Step 6 maps
A pin with a question mark is a transfer, with a star a 'promotion'. Ardley and Easington have appealed against their placings – they would rather be in the UCL. One of the provisions of the postponed restructuring is that Step 2 goes to 48 clubs. That can't be implemented this summer. It will affect relegations next season, as will the fact that 21-22 will start with Steps 1-4 five clubs short. The FA haven't made a statement yet.

Ardley and Easington have had their appeals upheld but don't yet know where they'll be placed. Given that in the initially proposed line-ups the Hellenic Premier had 22 clubs and the UCLP South only 18, it shouldn't be too difficult for the FA.

_________________2 Nov 2021 at 6:25pmJust to round this off: the expansion to 48 clubs of Step 2 goes ahead at the end of this season, along with the filling of vacancies. The consequences for Step 3 is that just nine clubs will go down instead of the planned 16 and only two will come down from above. Whether expanding Step 2 will move its boundary north or south is impossible to say. _________________Update: Here's a Step 2 projection. No Brackley as they're promoted in this scheme. If they don't go up then, all else being the same, Oxford stay south.
