Southern League Eastern Division
Banbury United 3-0 Wisbech Town
After a difficult first season back in the Southern League, Banbury had made a much more confident start to their second campaign and at Christmas were 8th but a dreadful slump in the New Year saw them win just two of their next 16 matches. They went into this fixture in 17th place, just two points clear of their bottom-but-one opponents Wisbech with only three games to follow. Four points separated Corby at the foot of the table from 14th-placed Rothwell. [NB Two down from 22.]
Banbury had stumbled their way through the match for well over an hour before manager Kevin Brock looked to the bench. Up stood Steve Jenkins. He had made only five appearances that season, all as a substitute in the previous seven weeks and without scoring. Little more than a quarter of an hour later he had bagged a hat-trick, his three calm finishes a stark contrast to all that had gone before. They were his only goals of the season.
Final positions: Wisbech, bottom, relegated to the Eastern Counties League; Corby, a place above but spared, their second reprieve in five seasons; Banbury, 15th but only four points clear of Corby.

Remember it well, mainly because of the bumps and bruises picked up during the fan/player celebrations after Jenks 3rd goal
