The club is once again in the financial mire. Going largely full-time wasn't wise and now the main backer has pulled out. The club is up for sale (presumably before administration looms) and the consortium that was bidding claims that it has been 'gazundered' by the new team manager, Spencer Day, appointed after a four-year spell at Chertsey Town. Day claims he has no interest in buying the club but he has plenty of money to spare and put a lot of it into Chertsey, who were promoted to the SL this year.
Spencer Day is actually Spencer Trethewy, the teenage 'tycoon' who famously failed in his bid to save Aldershot from extinction and then served time at Her Majesty's pleasure for breaching the Companies Act by running up bills when his company was suspended from trading (to make his bid for the club he borrowed a lot of money that he couldn't pay back). He changed his name by deed poll and took his mother's maiden name. Despite his earlier setbacks, Day is now worth £12,000,000...

According to some sources (NL Paper?), the club has run up a debt of £1,700,000 since the punishing two-level demotion of 2007.

That must have taken some doing. Wonder how much went on the unfinished stand behind the goal?

While a lot of that debt is probably down to the building works, the club is (or has been) overspending on the field, though I understand debts to HMRC are 'manageable'. There must be a very large figure under 'Loans to directors'...
