We’ll always be ‘punching above our weight’ if everyone has the same attitude. What happened to ambition? When we got promoted everyone was excited to see where it could lead.
Once upon a time Cheltenham were our level, now they’re an established league side.
If we’re just happy to be here we’ll never be anything.
Also, he chose the players. He thought they were good enough, and most of them clearly aren’t. No one else can be blamed, it falls squarely in one place.
Other clubs in this league have full-time squads backed by attendances that we can currently only dream of and/or wealthy benefactors. Due to the lack of the latter, we will never be able to jump up leagues and secure Football League status quickly, we have to progress as our finances and the status of the club will allow. It's not a lack of ambition, it's just being realistic.
Mark Jones selected players from a small market of those that were without clubs - if we asked him whether they would've been his first choice selections, that would be disrespectful to those currently playing for us and cause massive upset in the dressing room when we're sat just below mid-table.
Sadly football these days is all about money, it's the ruin of football as we know/knew it but it's why Banbury United is so special being a community owned club.
Look into the recent histories of Darlington, Chester, Scunthorpe, Torquay, Yeovil etc,., etc., etc., etc., re ambition and money.
