New defender looks likely to make his debut tomorrow. Big game for us, fancy us to win it.

Not really a signing that fills me with hope, a defender who played a lot of games for a team relegated. I hope for a positive result tomorrow, I believe a point would be a good result. The quality in the squad lacks depth and doesn't feel like a team at all. The result against Gloucester was important if only to put points on the board and for securing points against teams that may be around us in the table at the end of the season. Mark Jones comes across as a really nice person, but I do wonder if he has a cutting edge to improve on his win rate at this level of football. So far apart from joining Banbury, Mark has stayed in the comfort zone with signings from previous links elsewhere. I would like to see him make quicker decisions even if it leads to mistakes. There are players in the squad simply not good enough or too early in their career to make a meaningful contribution and a couple of other players are injury liabilities. What happened from late spring to early summer has passed and cannot be changed, but it is safe to say Banbury United was not the glue or attraction that held the previous squad together. I hope lessons have been learned and in the next month or so we see a mental shift from a community club with a ceiling on ambition to a club that can attract more with a growth mindset. The club has done incredibly well to achieve its current status with the backing of local businesses, but the town plays host to major international and big UK companies and that is where the next level of investment needs to come from. It is so crucial from the ambitions on the field to a new stadium and infrastructure. Am I out of order, what do you think?

One fan on Deva Chat, has said that Chester have all the town end, little does he know it is one corner.🤣

One fan on Deva Chat, has said that Chester have all the town end, little does he know it is one corner.🤣 Not quite: "...tomorrow they now need to give that whole end up for us because it's the only way to segregate there." But yes, they'll find out that they've been crammed into the corner. Does anyone know the limit on away fans? Chester took 300 to Bishop's Stortford on the opening day.

It is so crucial from the ambitions on the field to a new stadium and infrastructure. Am I out of order, what do you think?Perhaps a little unfair on the manager and the team but correct to ask questions about the 'vision thing'. MJ was given a tough task: build a competent Step 2 side from scratch in eight weeks on a modest budget. And he was given that task because the club suddenly had to find a manager with Step 2 experience after Andy Whing's resignation three weeks after the season had ended. Crisis management? Not quite but almost. There are still unanswered questions about AW's departure and the fact that so many players jumped ship so quickly but, as you say, it's done. It might be a different team by Christmas. Give it a chance. Gloucester fans were complimentary. Given that GC had also had a big clear-out of players, the match was always going to be a good measure of progress for both clubs. On the basis of that, Banbury have a head start. The ground has always been a worry. Here's yours truly writing three days after Banbury had beaten Taunton in the play-off in 2016: "...perhaps we'll be able to shed the 'little old Banbury' mentality. Conditioned by years of disappointment we had become grateful for a few victories over 'bigger' clubs or the occasional top 10 finish. Excuses often featured the 'problem' of the ground..."It's a big distraction now, and not just operationally. It's understandable if the board was a bit preoccupied last season by the tenancy and the rent increase. Let's hope our new commercial manager has the knack of opening doors and wallets. Banbury coasted a bit at times in the SL Premier Division, both before and after the supporters' takeover. There's none of that allowed now.

Odd comment from the Chester Manager in his post match interview in that the home crowd were excited because we were playing Chester😳 Smacks of a bit up yourself for me.

Odd comment from the Chester Manager in his post match interview in that the home crowd were excited because we were playing Chester😳 Smacks of a bit up yourself for me. Smacks more of a Manager already under pressure from his Board of Directors and (rather charming) fans to perform straight from the word 'go' - they've had two losses, one draw, one win and currently sit below little old us in the table ? Great to get another three points on the Board, well played Mark, the team and the fans !

An excellent performance all over the pitch. The effort from every player was outstanding. Chester really are a strange club. Their manager is somewhat hot headed. He wanted to fight Banbury supporters in the car park during the first half!!! Very odd, surely he should have been concentrating on the game ? A small minority of their supporters are also very aggressive, leaving the ground they wanted to fight anybody, shouting abuse at everyone. Very disappointing from a once big club. Great three points, we are now mid table!!!

Great three points, we are now mid table!!! Chester forum match thread: deva-chat.com/thread/6846/banbury-awayTheir fans were the victims according to this. Plenty of comments about inbreds, small towns, tinpot pub team league etc., the usual stuff from supporters of ex-FL clubs with a big fish, small pond attitude having to slum it on their way back to the big time which, in the club's previous incarnation, was spent entirely in the 3rd and 4th divisions. Apparently, there was a Chester constable at the match who will be reporting. From the reports I've heard, Banbury have some questions to answer: more flares, missiles thrown from the home section. The calmer heads on the Chester forum suggest the segregation arrangement needs looking at – opposing fans too close and Plod ineffective. Good result again. Keep it up.

Just read the Chester forum comments with particular regard to weirdo home fans, the point they missed was given what took place last season the so called Banbury supporters dressed in all black no doubt to make them look really hard were bound to turn up yet again looking for trouble. Last season I mistakenly wandered along to try and find out who had thrown a flare and was met with utter ignorance and one individual even questioned why I was having a go. Still evades me what they don’t understand about flares and smoke bombs being banned and the penalties the club can expect, perhaps if the culprits were made to pay the fines they might then understand.

An attendance of 802 is a bit disappointing if Chester brought 200+. Does anyone know the exact number? I thought it would be the first 1,000+ crowd since Brackley. Perhaps some were put off by pre-match publicity and the all-ticket status.

My guess would be that some regulars would have been put off by the nonsense with them lad season or perhaps hanging back to see what develops with the team.
