Fare comment futchscfc,it is down to gross mis-management that causes most of the problems and clubs like ours suffer as a result because we can't afford to pay some of the over inflated wages some players demand. We see teams splashing cash like there is no tommorow and when it all goes wrong they wonder how. It's the supporters who suffer everytime but until the football authorities address this now annual problem, clubs will still continue to exist beyond their means in an effort to buy success.

Yes great post Futch, I had registered to say pretty much excactly the same. But I would add as a jonny come lately (never been to southern league game before this season) as much as the club have to make it back up to the conference and we the fans want that too, I can understand why so many of our number loved the SL days. Having a pint walking around the ground! Lovely. Personally: 2 away matches, 1 this season - Banbury: 1 last season - Luton town. Which one did I enjoy the most? Banbury and not just because we won . A much better, much more hospitatable place to go. Our game at yours was actually my girlfriends birthday present!!!! her choice boys, not mine! I know what a lucky chap I am!! But the bottom line is as futch explained, as a club having tasted higher league status, financially we have to get back there to be able to survive. Staying full time was and remains a gamble but not as big as many think due to the age of most of the squad. Another point is, all that extra stewarding etc that you saw needs the ticket prices Conf football can demand, and the crowd numbers that level of football will bring through the gate top pay for it. Until then, we have to observe the rules and reg imposed on us by the local authorities - even if it does act as a massive financial noose around our knecks

Futch's reply confirms our suspicions, namely that over-zealous officialdom has made apparently unreasonable demands on the club – but has SCFC ever challenged those demands? Futch writes: "To have the whole ground open...would require another 20 SIA licensed stewards...". This should be questioned. Is the number of stewards required dependent on the size of the arena, the number of spectators or a combination of both? What do the police imagine spectators will do if not supervised by the number of stewards that their formulae require? Rip up the terraces? Worry the sheep? Launch a nuclear strike on Basingstoke? (Hmm...) And you just know that sooner or later there will be an incident in which spectators require help and will be let down... Bureaucrats. God save us from them. Interesting point..... however here's a good example.... when we played Weymouth in the league (old southern league derby) we had some idiots who stood with the whites supporters, who were not whites supporters (not seen before or after the game) who decided to come along for the day and have a scuffle with a few weymouth fans.... Note this game was not at the Ray Mac, but at Weymouth's ground. The police and local authorities response....... Full segregation for the Truro game (who brought about 50 up with them on a Tuesday night) and all the necessary stewards to cover it. If it hadn't been for some good work by our local officer who is the police liason for us, and work by the club, the police were wanting Full police coverage and for us to pay for it. Us fans chuckled that it was to protect us from the Truro travelling support!LOL As I said before, Wiltshire Police just think we are the southern Swindon Town! When you consider that you need 2 or 3 stewards on the away turnstyle (s) to maintain certificate and to then cover all exits and emergency exits and hatching area with stewards then it soon adds up to 20 extra people and you are looking at probably near on £600-£800 to cover that. I believe the number of stewards is dependant on capacity of crowd, exits and entrances.... and what the police say you need for a certificate.

It has to be said scfcmw, nobody likes going to Luton Town. Don't start us on somthing else.... We were all ticket on a Tuesday evening when we went there (because Stevenage were playing Oxford down the road to a sell out and they thought Oxford fans would come to Luton to make trouble!) - only to be told on the turnstyle that the police had agreed that it was ok to sell tickets on the turnstyle, but not to make it public! We took under 30 people!

Just to put one misconception to bed - to open up the Ray Mac fully for the vast majority of games would require an increase TO 22 stewards, not an EXTRA 20, nor is there a requirement for them to be SIA licensed.
