Thought we had played you more than twice. Have the Margate v Banbury programme at home somewhere. Fingers crossed for a victory tonight at Wealdstone.

Wealdstone are the Club who brought us Stuart Pearce and Vinnie Jones - one hell of an amateur club history - allegedly (?) stitched up re the sale of their Lower Mead ground - spent all (?)the money on renting Watford's ground for a spell - took over Ruislip Manor's Grosvenor Vale ground (3 miles from me !) which is now their home. Used to have a very good support so hopefully they'll bring a good few up especially as they can jump on a British Rail train from South or West Ruilsip Station door to door :goodbeertimesmilie: ** disclaimer ** I'm sure plenty of their fans will correct any errors in the first paragraph above !

Wealdstone were...allegedly (?) stitched up re the sale of their Lower Mead ground - spent all (?)the money on renting Watford's ground for a spell - took over Ruislip Manor's Grosvenor Vale ground (3 miles from me !) which is now their home. The development company that bought Lower Mead went bust (official line...) and most of the proceeds of the sale went with it. The club later recovered some money (£300,000?) through the courts. The two-year stay at Watford was ruinously expensive; after that the club played at Yeading, Edgware and Northwood, switching from the SL to the IL, a two-division drop. Harrow was a more obvious choice for a ground share but perhaps local rivalry (!) got in the way of that although I suppose at first they had ambitions to get back into the Conference and grounds nearer to Wealdstone did not meet the grade. Stones had plans to return to the borough of Harrow. They identified the 44 acre Prince Edward Playing Fields in Canon's Park as a potential site. Harrow Borough Council agreed and set about turning the disused recreation grounds into a community and sporting facility with a new stadium for the club. Unfortunately, the development ran into financial difficulties (the development company ran out of money...) and now the site is Barnet's training centre. The football stadium remains half-finished ( Google maps aerial photo). Used to have a very good support so hopefully they'll bring a good few up especially as they can jump on a British Rail train from South or West Ruislip Station door to door. Typical league attendances this season are around the 400-450 mark (but only 228 last night). If the match goes to a replay, Ruislip is little more than an hour away by road (much easier to reach than Edgware and Northwood, both of which Banbury have visited in recent seasons) and can be done by train as well with services running until after midnight.
